- What is an authorization letter used for?

- Is it the same as a power of attorney?
- No. It is narrower and for limited tasks. For broad or ongoing authority over finances or property, use a power of attorney.
- Does it need to be notarized?
- Not always, but a notarized signature is often requested so a third party can rely on it. A notary can witness it online or in Ottawa.
- What should it include?
- Your name and the authorized person, exactly what they may do, the time period, and any limits.
