Overview
A boat bill of sale — also called a watercraft bill of sale or vessel bill of sale — documents the transfer of a boat from a seller to a buyer, including the price, date, and identifying details such as the make, length, and hull or serial number.
It supports licensing or registration of the vessel and provides each party with proof of the sale.
It is the standard record for a private boat sale.
Record the buyer and seller names and addresses, the vessel details (make, model, year, length, hull or serial number, and motor if included), the price, the date, and both signatures. Each party should keep a copy.
Once you have filled in your boat bill of sale and downloaded the PDF, do not sign it in advance if a witnessed signature is needed. A notary public can witness and notarize your signature so a third party can rely on it.
Minute Notary witnesses your boat bill of sale online by secure video, under Ontario's remote commissioning rules (O. Reg. 431/20), or in person in Ottawa. Bring valid government-issued photo identification.
