The Seller confirms receipt of the stated amount as complete payment for the Trailer from the Buyer, and agrees that ownership shall transfer within five (5) days of the date this document is signed.
The Seller represents and warrants that the Seller holds clear and marketable title to the described property, possesses full authority to complete this sale, and that the property is conveyed free and clear of all liens, encumbrances, obligations, and adverse claims of any kind.
The Seller is not aware of any concealed defects in the Trailer and, to the best of the Seller's knowledge, the Trailer is in satisfactory working order at the time of sale. The Trailer is otherwise sold on an "as is" basis at its present location.

A Bill of Sale for a Trailer is a written record that documents the private sale or transfer of a trailer from one party to another. It captures both parties' names and addresses, the sale price, the date of sale, and the trailer's identifying details (make, model, year, colour, VIN, number of axles, and style).
It works for utility trailers, boat trailers, travel trailers, 5th wheels, and cargo trailers alike. Whether you are selling a small landscape trailer or a large recreational unit, the same document applies.
In Ontario, when you buy a used trailer privately you must register it at a ServiceOntario centre before towing it on public roads. ServiceOntario will ask for proof of purchase, and a signed bill of sale is the standard document they accept.
Beyond registration, a bill of sale is useful any time you need to prove ownership, insure the trailer, or resolve a dispute about who owns it.

After the sale, the buyer takes the bill of sale and the signed-over vehicle portion of the existing permit (the green ownership slip, if one exists) to a ServiceOntario centre. You will also need valid photo ID and proof of insurance.
Older homemade trailers or imports sometimes lack a Vehicle Identification Number. Ontario can assign one through a VIN verification process at a ServiceOntario centre or an authorised inspection station.
Having a notarized bill of sale helps establish that the trailer was legitimately purchased, which is especially important when there is no VIN to trace the chain of ownership.
No, Ontario law does not require notarization for a private trailer sale. However, notarization is a practical choice when the sale price is high, when the trailer has no VIN, or when you want extra protection against a future ownership dispute.
A notarized copy carries more evidentiary weight in court than an unwitnessed signature on a plain sheet of paper, and ServiceOntario is less likely to question a notarized document.
Ideally both buyer and seller attend so the notary can verify identities and witness both signatures. If only one party can be present, that person may swear a statutory declaration confirming the sale details instead.
