Six small things that make the call go smoothly

Most online appointments that run long are slowed by light, sound or a missing ID — not by the paperwork.

  • Light on your face

Face a window or a lamp. A bright light behind you turns you into a silhouette, and the notary has to match your face to your ID.

  • Photo ID in hand

Keep your government-issued photo ID next to you. You will hold it up to the camera at the start of the appointment.

  • Document ready, unsigned

Have the completed but unsigned document open or printed. You sign it live, in front of the notary.

  • A quiet room

The oath or affirmation has to be heard clearly on both sides. Close the door and mute other devices.

  • Battery or charger

An online appointment takes 3-4 minutes on average, but a phone at 5% can still drop the call. Plug in if you can.

  • Steady internet

Use Wi-Fi or a strong mobile signal, and pause large downloads or other video calls on the same connection.

Common questions

Is anything recorded or sent?
No. The preview and the microphone meter run inside your browser only. Nothing is saved, uploaded or shared with us, and the camera and microphone switch off when you press Stop or leave the page.
Why does the page ask for permission?
Browsers never switch on a camera or microphone silently. The prompt appears only after you press Start, and you can revoke the permission in your browser settings at any time.
The check fails on this device. Can I still attend?
Yes. Try another browser or device first — a phone with a front camera is enough. If it still fails, contact us before your appointment and we will help you join or move the time.
