What is an affidavit of marriage?
An affidavit of marriage — also called a sworn statement of marriage or marriage declaration — confirms under oath that two people are married, and gives the particulars of the marriage. It is sworn before a notary public or commissioner for taking affidavits.
It is commonly used when a marriage certificate cannot be produced, when a foreign marriage needs to be confirmed, or when an institution asks for sworn proof of the marriage.

It supports a range of immigration, family, and administrative purposes.

What to include
State the full names of both spouses, the date and place of the marriage, and who can confirm it. If a certificate exists but is unavailable, explain why. Keep any supporting documents, such as photos or witness details, available if requested.
An affidavit supports your application, but it does not replace an official marriage certificate where one is required; confirm what the receiving organization needs.
